Chapter Seven

“No. Absolutely not.” Shea stood her ground, as well as made sure her point was well made by placing both hands on her hips. “I am going home today, and there is nothing you can do to stop me.”

“Don’t bet on it, sweetheart,” Gray warned, stepping into her personal space. She refused to step back, so Shea tilted her head to look up at him. “Someone is after you, and if you think we are letting you drive an hour and a half by yourself, you are dead wrong. Which is what you could end up being if you don’t listen to reason.”

“Having sex with you last night does not give you the right to run my life.”

“You’re right, it doesn’t,” Gray agreed. “But making love to you did give us the right to make sure you remain safe.”

“And if I remember correctly, making love to you isn’t going to make you announce it to the world, is it?”

“We need to have a serious talk about that, Shea, but not now.” Gray shook his head and took a step back. “Brad is coming over soon to let us know if he has found out anything from forensics on the car. Ian and I think it would be safer for you to stay with us until this guy is caught.”

“And I told you that that wasn’t going to happen.” Shea walked over to the chair in the living room and picked up her black suit jacket. It would serve two purposes. It would prove to him that she wasn’t going to do what he said, and it would also cover up her nipples, which she knew were pebbled. Since meeting them, her body seemed to have a mind of its own. “I have a deadline to meet, and all of my notes are at home. Plus, I’m not going to let this dictate what I can and cannot do.”

“And what about us?”

Shea turned to see Ian walk into the room. His hair was still wet, indicating he had just gotten out of the shower. He was rolling his sleeves up on his white dress shirt, which she had figured out was just a part of his casual style. Unlike his brother, who was wearing his suit jacket and blue tie to match his buttoned-up shirt like he was going to war in a conference room. They were both so different, yet they had the same effect on her emotions.

“I was thinking about that,” Shea said.

Before she could continue, her cell phone rang. Since her purse had been next to her jacket, it was in easy reach. Locating her phone, Shea saw that it was Gray and Ian’s business line that she had called a couple days ago. Thinking it was Lucy calling, even though it seemed a bit early for her to be in the office, Shea answered.

“Hello?”

“Did you stay with them?”

A shiver of terror went down Shea’s back as she realized it wasn’t Lucy. She tried to make eye contact with Ian and Gray, not knowing how to respond.
